How a charging point is registered in the Madrid region.

A home charging point of up to 50 kW inside a garage is registered with a design technical report and an installation certificate, signed by an installation company licensed for low voltage, which files them with an inspection body (EICI) of the Madrid region. A full technical project is only needed if the power exceeds 50 kW, if it is outdoors and exceeds 10 kW, or if it is mode 4 charging. We take care of preparing and filing that paperwork.

Information reviewed on 26 October 2026 against the official sources below. If the rules change, we update it. General information, not legal advice; each installation is assessed in the preliminary study.

Frequently asked questions

What documents are filed?

A registration application (official form), a design technical report (MTD) and a low-voltage electrical installation certificate (official form) signed by the installer; where applicable, justification of variations and other specific documentation, including that for electric vehicle charging. Source: file 2722 on the Madrid regional government's online office.

Who files it, and with whom?

The installation company licensed for low voltage, with an Industrial Inspection and Control Body (EICI), under Order 9344/2003, which file 2722 on the Madrid regional government's online office cites.

When is a full technical project needed?

When the charging installation exceeds 50 kW, or is outdoors and exceeds 10 kW, or uses charging mode 4 (with no power limit). This is set out in ITC-BT-04, section 3.1, group z), of the Low Voltage Electrotechnical Regulation (Royal Decree 842/2002), according to the consolidated text in the BOE consulted on 26-10-2026.

Is an initial inspection by a control body needed?

According to the consolidated text in the BOE consulted on 26-10-2026, ITC-BT-05, section 4.1 h), requires an initial inspection for charging-station installations that need a technical project to be built. A home charging point with a design technical report does not fall under that case.

How long does it take?

The online-office file says "Deadline: permanent" and sets no resolution time, so we do not promise timescales: we give you the installation date in the proposal.

And in a shared garage?

What changes is the notice to the owners' association, not the registration of the installation. We explain it on the page about the shared garage and the Horizontal Property Law.
